Perhaps the elephant in the room is bluesky, which uses a DNS-based system to advertise/discover a DID-anchored actor object. While Bluesky worked with Namecheap to make a turnkey system for using a DNS you control as your “handle” for your bluesky DID, I think @erlend mentioned in another thread that his team is working on just such a turnkey approach for connecting the DNS namespace with an ActivityPub actor with automated webfinger setup and headless services from one or more AP implementations allowing this kind of detached identity.
