Call for Community

I am no longer moderator. You’d have to ask the admins, specifically @how. But …

The bigger question indeed: Where’s SocialHub headed? At minimum there’s a discussion forum and a do-ocracy, and that needs 2 people doing chores. All else requires more people stepping to the plate i.e. SocialHub: Made by you.

SocialHub is nothing without you

There have been several appeals and reminders by @how and me for more community support. Without that SocialHub may discontinue.

Community: Doing the things together

Is SocialHub just a forum, or a true community, that is the question.

In relation to the quoted text, for there to be a community, the call whether to host the Fediversity and have it federating, should first of all be a community decision (thus not up to the admins, which is just a community role). And all subsequent changes should be supported / maintained by the community, for it to be sustainable. The community needs more volunteers and

As for do-ocracy, “pick any task and steer it to completion”, the member initiative “Host the Fediversity” taken on by @strypey may bump into more tasks to be done or delegated. For instance, does the forum have enough active admins and moderators to give good response times to member requests? And also e.g. defining what constitutes a “community decision”.

So… calls for community. Reminder: if these aren’t heeded, we might as well close shop.

This flag is an opportunity to practice + improve the well-being process. In a healthy community the members should be in-the-know and comfortable that just flagging is sufficient to set the process in motion. And that there’s no need for an in-thread reply about the flag, that is OT to the thread topic, and also risks unnecessary escalation of the issue.

Such replies though are understandable if the well-being process isn’t working well, or unclear.

Right now there aren’t any active moderators. So the flag likely waits till @how, who has just little time available for SocialHub, can deal with it. So…

Moderators. Volunteers?

I also cannot make unilateral decisions all the time. This is not my intention, not what’s needed, and not a way to run a community. So yes, we’ve been in the process of onboarding new people in @well-being.team, which is great, but not sufficient. The team must be active as well
