I am in Taipei to participate in the first-ever Fediverse & Social Web track at COSCUP 2026. The attendees will likely be mainly from Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and China, with a few North Americans and others thrown in
COSCUP (Conference for Open Source Coders, Users, and Promoters) is an annual conference in Taiwan, jointly organized by open-source communities. Established in 2006, it has been a key driving force of Taiwan’s Free and Open Source Software Movement (FOSSM). The mission of COSCUP is to provide a platform that connects developers, users, and advocates of open-source software, fostering the growth and adoption of Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) through its yearly conferences.
What would the folks on SocialHub like me to tell Asian COSCUP folks who are interested in the Fediverse about this forum? Should they be encouraged to join it? Will they be able to carve out new categories for the language and regional issues which concern them? Or should they build a place of their own?
I am confident that the entire track will have a meta-message of “the Fediverse is wonderful! Join in!” I’m asking about the message regarding the SocialHub forum specifically.
